4-Hydroxybenzoic Acid, a colorless crystalline or powdery substance, boasts remarkable antibacterial efficacy, outperforming both benzoic and sorbic acids due to its phenolic hydroxyl structure. Its derivatives, such as esters, are widely used as preservatives in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, benefiting from their low toxicity and effectiveness across a wide pH range.

Our production of 4-Hydroxybenzoic Acid involves the sophisticated phenol-potassium carboxylation process, ideally suited for industrial-scale manufacturing. This process is meticulously controlled to ensure high yield and purity.

We combine a 40% potassium hydroxide solution with phenol, followed by heating and dehydration under both normal and reduced pressures, yielding a composite salt of phenol potassium and phenol. The composite salt undergoes further heating and is subjected to purified anhydrous carbon dioxide at 0.5MPa pressure. The reaction proceeds through multiple stages of carboxylation, ensuring thorough conversion. The carboxylated solution is neutralized with sulfuric acid and subjected to filtration and recrystallization, achieving a purity level exceeding 99%.

4-Hydroxybenzoic Acid and its esters serve a wide array of applications:
