High purity Povidone Iodine, CAS number 25655-41-8

mesisng

Povidone Iodine (PVP-I) is a complex formed by combining elemental iodine with a polymer carrier, povidone, which acts as both a carrier and a solubilizer. At room temperature, it appears as a yellow-brown to reddish-brown amorphous powder with a mild odor. It dissolves easily in water or ethanol, forming an acidic solution, but is insoluble in ether, chloroform, acetone, ethane, and carbon tetrachloride. Compared to iodine tinctures, Povidone Iodine offers lighter coloring, is easily washable, causes minimal irritation to mucous membranes, does not require ethanol for deiodination, and has low corrosiveness and toxicity.

Povidone Iodine (PVP-I) is a broad-spectrum, powerful disinfectant that effectively kills viruses, bacteria, fungi, and mold spores. It is minimally irritating to the skin and has a long-lasting effect, making it safe and easy to use for disinfection of skin and mucous membranes, such as preoperative cleaning and disinfection of surgical sites and wounds.

  • Medical Field: Used for preoperative and postoperative skin and eye surface disinfection to reduce infection risk. Also effective for disinfecting minor wounds.
  • Animal Husbandry: Widely used in pig farming for biosecurity and disease prevention. It effectively kills pathogens like Newcastle disease, Bursa disease, avian influenza, and Mycoplasma, and also eliminates parasites’ eggs and inhibits the breeding of flies and mosquitoes. It can be used in fruit trees, crops, and aquaculture.
  • Agriculture: Used for disinfection in fruit trees, crops, and aquaculture.
  • Gynecology: As a vaginal gel, it provides a controlled release of iodine to maintain a certain concentration on the skin and mucous membranes, killing pathogens and treating bacterial vaginitis.

PS Chemical Consortium uses an advanced solution method to produce Povidone Iodine. The production process involves the following key steps:

  • Ingredient Mixing: Combining povidone (polyvinylpyrrolidone, PVP) with iodine and other additives in specified proportions. The typical composition includes: 10.0%~50.0% PVP K30, 2.34%~11.44% iodine, 1.17%~5.72% potassium iodide, 5.0%~45.0% isopropanol, 0.01%~10.0% stabilizers, and the remainder being water.
  • Dissolution and Mixing: Dissolving and mixing the ingredients under controlled conditions to form a homogeneous Povidone Iodine solution.
  • Reaction and Stabilization: The povidone and iodine combine through a complexation reaction to ensure the product's stability.
  • Refinement: Utilizing high-stability non-ionic N-vinylpyrrolidone iodine technology to improve production processes and produce high-quality Povidone Iodine.
  • Equipment and Maintenance: Our factory has developed new production equipment for Povidone Iodine solutions, including innovations for easier maintenance and replacement of parts, enhancing production efficiency and product quality.

PS Chemical Consortium’s Povidone Iodine products excel in both medical and general disinfection applications, making them a core product with a strong export presence in Asia.
